Frequently Asked Questions

What is coaching?

Coaching is a partnership between a professional coach and an individual designed to help the individual move forward in life, make changes and achieve results. Clients come to coaching for both personal and professional reasons. As we cannot compartmentalize our lives, coaching often spans both personal and professional issues. Our personal life affects our work and what’s going on at work affects our personal life.

A professional coach will help clients clarify a vision for their lives, define specific goals and steps to reach those goals, increase self-awareness, improve limiting behaviours and keep clients in action.

How does coaching work?

The coaching relationship begins with an Intake Session that lasts approximately two hours. This session is designed to create a life and/or work vision identifying the areas for action and desired results. The coaching relationship is co-designed by the coach and the client to best suit the needs of the client and accelerate growth.

After the initial Intake Session, the coach and client meet once a week. The client chooses the topic for each weekly session. The coach does not instruct or advise. The coach listens, ask questions, explores perspectives and options and helps the client dig deeper for more learning and growth. Coaching sessions usually take place over the phone, meaning you can choose the coach that is right for you, whether the coach is in your city or not. If the coach and client are in the same city, the Intake Session can be done in person.

What is the difference between personal and executive coaching?

The tools and techniques used by the coach are the same for both personal and executive coaching. The difference is that executive coaching places more emphasis on the person within an organization and focuses on reaching specific business and leadership goals.

What will I get from coaching?

Have you had the nagging feeling that you want your life to change? Or have you had a specific goal or desire for your life, but haven’t acted on it….and two or five years later you are still dreaming of that particular goal or desire? Well imagine if you had a coach who was completely focused on you – your partner who is completely committed to helping you reach your goals and change your life. A partner who: won’t let you give excuses; will challenge you to get into action; will ask you those tough questions to get to the heart of the matter and discover your strengths; will listen without judgement; and be totally devoted to your growth and happiness. Team that with your commitment to make changes and the possibilities are endless.

According to a survey conducted by the International Coach Federation, 98.5% of the clients surveyed said their investment in a coach was well worth the money.

What is the difference between coaching and therapy?

Therapy is often focused on the past and deals with emotional healing. Coaching is focused on moving forward, increasing potential and a future of personal and professional success, based on the individual’s goals.
